Our Poolside collection was inspired by sun-drenched photographs of idyllic poolside scenes from golden times. To bring the collection to life, we needed a location that looked like it came from a Slim Aarons photo. Come with us as we take you behind the scenes on our Resort '18 Poolside campaign shoot.
It didn't take us long to find our dream Poolside location - the beautiful home belongs to a family we know. Complete with a large turquoise pool (with original blue mosaic tiles), sun-bleached sandstone and striped awnings, the home was front and centre on our mood boards.
As we walked through the french bifold doors and onto the patio, we were met with a gentle breeze and the understated charm of the Malibu style home. The location also had a diving board, antique white bistro table set and potted flowers scattered around the pool - what a bonus!
Our team for the day was made up of photographer Tess Leopold, models Eden Bristowe from CHIC and Bridgette Cooper, H&M artist Erin Gallienne and the peony team.
Our hair and makeup brief was "barely there". Both girls had fresh, hydrated and glowing skin - we wanted to highlight their freckles and keep everything else very pared back. We used some light body oil to create skin that glistened in the sun.
While hair and makeup was underway, we scouted the location with natural light and the movement of the sun front of mind.
Shortly after this, our beautiful friend and photographer Tess arrived with her new baby, Bowie. We were immediately side tracked from the task at hand and spent some time fussing over just how precious she is. The last time we saw Tess, she was heavily pregnant balancing on a tinny during our Spring ‘18 campaign shoot so we were so excited to spend some time with Bowie girl (she is absolutely divine).
While shooting, we took turns bouncing Bowie in her rocker while preparing the next looks. When it comes to styling we are known for raiding local op shops and our grandparent’s wardrobes. We were desperate to find a vintage backgammon set and on the day before the shoot Becky found one hidden in a cupboard that belonged to her husband's grandmother. It was in perfect condition and the brown set of dice matched our Freckle polka dot print from the collection - meant to be!
The afternoon flew by and as the sun started to set we celebrated the day by enjoying the margaritas we had made earlier for the shoot (we didn’t want to let them go to waste).
We couldn't be happier with how the collection came together and we hope you love it as much as we do.
Here's to a long, hot summer. x
